Second issue: The Offspring

Read the newest magazine issue

The Offspring Group, an off-shoot of the Germany-wide Max Planck PhDnet, aims to help Max Planck PhDs communicate across Germany and encourage young scientists to share their outcomes, to teach and learn from each other, and to support one another in their daily endeavors. The group has initiated and designed the Offspring Blog, a platform where ideas can be expressed and experiences shared.

Once a year, to time in with the annual PhDnet meeting, the group publish the Offspring Magazine, featuring a collection of articles and interviews from the Offspring Blog and special contributors over the past year. You can download a copy of the 2017 issue here.

Two IMPRS students, Mayank Chugh (ZMBP, Schäffer) and Matthew Cheng (IFIB, Jansen) have been actively involved as members of the Offspring Group. A further IMPRS member, Gero Hermsdorf (ZMBP, Schäffer) collaborated with Shilpa George (Tübingen University Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine) to produce the amazing cover photo “Rings of Fire”, which actually records the outcome of a FISH experiment on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria mounted on agarose. Find out more in the article “The Art of Science: from Laboratories to Galleries” by Matthew Cheng.

New contributors to ‘The Offspring’ are encouraged - just write to offspring(at)phdnet.de
